What It Feels Like When the Light Goes Out Inside | Path to J.E.N.

Some days, just getting through is the victory.

Depression isn’t always crying or staying in bed. Sometimes it’s silence. Sometimes it’s exhaustion that never lets go. Sometimes it’s staring at the wall, knowing what you need to do — and feeling the weight of gravity hold you still.

For me, it’s felt like anger trapped under my skin. It’s snapping over small things because everything inside already hurts. It’s carrying guilt for being tired, for being quiet, for not being the version of myself I used to recognize.

Depression is layered — it’s rage, grief, emptiness, and survival all tangled together. It builds walls like fortresses, and the only inhabitant is your own mind. You wait for the collapse and hope, somehow, you’ll still be standing when it comes.

People talk about recovery like it’s a sunrise — one day the light just returns. But the truth is, sometimes it flickers. Sometimes it hides. Sometimes the only light left is the one you have to create yourself, one small spark at a time.

And that’s okay. Healing isn’t fast or linear. It’s messy, painful, and often invisible — but it’s still happening.

If you’re reading this and you know that darkness — you’re not weak for feeling it. You’re human. You’re surviving something that most people will never understand. And that, in itself, is strength.

Justice means recognizing that mental health is part of being human. Empathy means sitting beside the pain without trying to fix it. And Never Alone means exactly what it sounds like — you are not doing this by yourself.

If the light feels gone right now, hold on. It’s still inside you, waiting for space to breathe.
